"All of my work feels so personal and heavy, so when I made this film, I liked the fact that it was, in some ways, kind of the contrary. It’s lighter in tone than anything I’ve done before, but I was excited by the idea of these two kids that lived completely isolated from the world and what effect that would have on their collective imagination, the way they 'played' and built a private world for themselves to inhabit. Mark Gluth and myself wrote the script, which is kind of an offshoot of one of the ideas in an early draft of our GIANT script. It’s about two brothers who discover their own dead bodies and then embark on a series of experiments to see whether they’re alive or not. We shot with a small crew in a tiny apartment way up in the Italian Alps (in Breuil-Cervinia, 2000 metres above sea level) at the foot of the Matterhorn. Not sure if I ever found the perfect balance in my edit. Perhaps I will return to it one day. There was originally a bunch of “weather reports” in the film which ended up getting cut, despite being some of my favorite parts. I’m presenting them here."
